Incep Finance handbook

Incep Finance is a books app for a small business. Money moves into and out of accounts you define, every movement is categorised, and everything else in the app is a view over those movements.

If you are setting up for the first time, start with Setting up your business and follow the checklist on your dashboard.

How the pieces connect

/
Accounts
Where money sits: cash, a bank account, a card, a receivable. Every entry lands in one.
Income and expenses
Money in and money out, each against an account and a category.
Transfers
Money moving between two of your own accounts, which is neither income nor expense.
Clients
Who income came from, which unlocks lifetime value and receivables.
Categories
How entries are grouped for reporting. A starter set is created for you.
Recurring transactions
Templates that post themselves each period.
Note: Account balances are never edited directly. They are adjusted by the entries that touch them, so the balance and the ledger cannot disagree.

The dashboard

/

Current balance, income and expenses this month, net profit, and what is owed to and by you, over charts of income against expenses, profit trend, cash flow and expense breakdown.

A new workspace also shows a getting started checklist. Each item ticks from real records, so it always reflects your actual data. Hide it when you are set up, and bring it back from Help in the sidebar.

Balances, this month, and the charts underneath. The getting started card sits at the top until you hide it.

Recording anything, from anywhere

/

The round button in the bottom right corner is on every screen. It opens one dialog that records income, an expense or a transfer, so you never have to navigate to a section first.
